WORKERS COMPENSATION &
JOURNEY CLAIMS

Workers Compensation

The ETU assists members with workers compensation claims should the need arise. Members across NSW and the ACT are covered by different workers compensation laws but the union can assist regardless of where you live and work.

If you have an accident at work or suffer a workplace injury you should immediately report this to your employer. Once you have reported the incident you should contact your nearest ETU office  or your ETU Organiser and advise them of the situation.

Your situation will be assessed and if required you will be put in touch with a representative from the ETU industrial team who will assist you with your workers compensation matter.

The ETU industrial team may refer you to NEW Law, the ETU owned law firm, that represents ETU members in matters including workers compensation.

Steps when making a workers compensation claim

1. Notify your employer

2. Contact your local ETU Office or Organiser

4. Talk with NEW Law if the matter requires full legal representation

Journey Claims

The ETU now provides all financial ETU members across NSW with journey cover insurance at no extra cost (terms and conditions apply)

Recent changes to the NSW Workers Compensation Act saw the NSW Government remove cover for workers if they had an accident or suffered injury on the way to or from work.

If you have had an accident while travelling to or from work you need to contact the ETU who can provide you with a claim number and help you get back on your feet.

If you have had an accident or suffered an injury while travelling to or from work immediately notify your employer. If you are covered by your workplace agreement for top up insurance or journey cover you should make a claim under your employers insurance policy.

If you do not have top up insurance or journey cover as a part of your workplace agreement you should immediately contact your local ETU office and notify them that you have suffered an injury while travelling to or from work.

Providing you are a financial member of the union you will be referred to our industrial team or your ETU Organiser who will assist you and provide you with a claim number. Insurance is provided by a third party who will process your journey claim.
